About Tori Fernandez Whitney

The chief operating officer of the William Wendt Center for Loss and Healing in Washington, DC, Tori Fernandez Whitney began her career as a policy analyst and global health advocate through Church World Service, also in Washington, DC. She went on to spend time as a policy director and deputy committee director with the Council of the District of Columbia and served as a senior Cabinet official under Mayor Adrian Fenty as the administrator of the DC Department of Health, Addiction Prevention, and Recovery Administration. Tori Fernandez Whitney led her own consulting firm between 2011 and 2013, where she helped both non-profit and public sector organizations streamline operations and diversify their revenue streams. As the chief operating officer of the William Wendt Center for Loss and Healing, she provides strategic management support to the executive director and manages the center's day-to-day operations. She both formulates and maintains the center’s $5 million annual budget. In addition to her work in this position, she serves Tenner Consulting as a management consultant. Tori Fernandez Whitney studied political science as an undergraduate at American University. She graduated with her bachelor of arts in 1999. She returned to the university in 2010, enrolling in a master of public administration program, and completed the program with her master of arts in 2012.
